I sense a movement stirring from the North, the winds of change are coming and riding them is Filtered Design. Of course its not an actual name for a branch of design but its a term I've given to any packaging, layout, art piece or bus stop sign, that have done away with collages of WHAM BAM slogans and rainbow on steroids coloured imagery.
I'll give you an example:
This by far, stood out from all the other crisp packaging on the shelves and check out how they dealt with the variants:
and look at this breath of fresh air from a least expected place, retro inspired packaging General Mills went through last year:
