Anime good time fun!

I suppose the thing that draws me to fantasy and fiction is probably what draws everyone else; the underlying human emotive subtext interpreted through fantastical form, you thought I was gonna say men in tights? or if I was straight... the big boobs and action. Alas no, my brain even exposed to an abundance of alcoholic beverages on a weekly basis, yurns for something a bit more than American Pie: The Reunion.

People tend to think Anime as a sort of geeky wankfest of the virgin kind (well I guess there is that sub niche market for that) but truth be told the Asian sort of toonage has more depth and rich character development than what the Americans seem to churn out, esp these days. Of course I could go straight to Studio Ghibli but this time I'm gonna yak about Ergo Proxy.

I saw this anime series a couple of years ago, the first episode just got me hooked, in a pistachio nutshell its about a futurist post apocalyptic city in which humans are grown in artificial wombs and the AutoReivs (robots) are their maids and expensive blow up dolls. Yeah I know you're saying; "ring ring, hello? oh hey Ghost in the shell". Where Ghost goes in the way of cyber detective, Ergo merely uses that as the stage to which it plays out its tragedy. Referencing artists and philosophers from the days of a flat world, it can get really confusing and brain urgness but they do have info at the end of each episode, to help you at least think you have a clue. The questions of self awareness, where am I going in my life? what does it take to be me? and do I really know me? Are what I got out of Ergo Proxy plus a kick ass intro complete with song.

Definitely one of my best Anime series of all time! give it a go, or not and be boring, its your choice.

Sup Ya'll

I trust you had a great festive season, (don't tell me about it, its just an expression). I can honestly inform you guys with about as much as 1% sarcasm that I'm really looking forward to 2012.

First important thing is the MUSIC, so many artists which have taken a 3 year gap year are all coming back with new albums, if you don't know who, then should one bother to tell you? (send your answers to whogivesafuck@justjoking.co.uk)

Second, the movies its gonna be a commercial year for me (The Avengers, Prometheus, Resident Evil, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Hobbit, Cabin in the Woods, Dark Shadows) unless, which is for certain, some underground/indie film house whacks me over the head with a whopper. For the film enthusiasts around check out my sisters blog, as she is at The Sundance Film Fest at this very moment and there is bound to be some interesting stories to occur.

Thirdly is the unexpectancy of where this boys life going to be headed this year, its great and all but seriously testing on the nerves and tummy, at least just throw me a friggen bone for a starter (wink)

As far as resolutions go, I've decided to forgo them for next year but if any of you would like to share theirs with me please stuff them in an email and send them to idontcare@justjokes.co.uk.

Its Friday, wooohoo so work hard and get trashed harder later, if you have kids (like 50% of my friends have) then have a nice night of barney and baby puke, HA! I love you guys!

Matts Halloween Palooza II

Another year another Halloween Movie Palooza, feel pity for this one as I have been suffering a bout of flu the whole week what convenient timing, I should be out and about scouting for a Halloween outfit|(s) yet I am in bed-ish dealing with a throat that seems to be possessed by Bobcat Goldthwait. eek!

But enough about me....

1: Rosemary's Baby.

Possibly one of the hugest influences in my or any ones film life, this one introduced me to the notion that not every scary movie needs to have prosthetic monsters jumping out at you or psycho serial killers chasing you up the stairs in your bra. All you need is some good directing and drugged up sex with Satan. Plus Mia Farrow nuff said.

Best Death Scene: um not really, tho the ending is creepy and full of cray cray (campy) characters

2: The Fourth Kind.

This film is based on actual events that occured Nome, Alaska (Balto fame) in 2000, spliced with acting and real footage, depicting interviews about alien abductions and what really happened. This one upped the creep factor by a thousand and asks the question: Is that really an owl looking at me outside my window? oh and Milla Jovovich nuff said.

Best Death Scene: Crap two in a row, nope but the owl freaks the f%^& out of you.

3: Ju-On.

I, like many of you were first introduced to the series of Ju-On by the American remake starring everyones favourite (say yes bitch's!!) Sarah Michelle Gellar. The US version was really good, nice and stylized, creepy and friggen scary, so when I decided to watch the original I thought I 'd know what to expect...uh f$$%^ no. The Japanese really know how to make a person go crazy without any gimmicky tricks and 3D graphics but with just using our own minds
to freak us out, our own minds? now that s scary. This is a staple in any horror buffs collection.

Best Death Scene: They are all freaky scary, this ones long but its all about atmosphere in Japanese horror, not big tits die in two seconds.

4: Fright Night

I havent seen the remake but this 1985 classic made me suspicious of all of my neighbours and first got me hooked on Vampyres, all the 80's elements are here; girl in trouble, synths and the hair.

Best Death Scene: Evil Eds transformation from wolf to man with a table leg through his chest, check it here but I would like to show a cool fan made music video which drips of 80's horra cool!

5: The Human Centipede

Okay this one is pure OMGWTF ness, the name says it all, with a crazy concept and a harrowing execution, you cannot help but feel shiddy for the the people that were unfortunate enough to meet Dr. Heiter the movie sick Dr. Psycho, be warned this movie is not for the faint of heart, body horror at its most inhumanist-ist. The sequel came out a recently and it actually takes the crazyness to new levels.

Best Death Scene: um I'd rather not say. if you cant stomach the trailer then give it a pass.....

I'm just going to skip the fact that I have neglected my blog,like the english people neglect fashion by wearing sweatpants in public.

As you can see by the headline of this post that I have been working extreeeeeemmmmeelly hard this past month, actually that's a lie, tho freelance has been good to this boy, the golden goblet of a stable job has alluded my lips of lust (wow where did that come from?). Life kinda has a way of not being quite what I want, but yet still giving me what (it thinks) I need, I'm not complaining just not content. PAHLLEEZZZ dont tell me "It gets better" save it for the Youtube vids for my poor gay tweens who are taking their lives (yup its still going), I just want to go through the days with a certainty in the insanity and hope one day a skrew will stay in....that's a positive thing.

So ya'll I opened a Tumblr account, as I feel this is more of a "Dear Diary" sorta thing and if I just want to post pics or videos with no DVD commentary I can just post them there, you can gaze upon it over here.

PS: The Work, The Work, The Work used to be my first jobs mantra, I don't get why companies need to conceptualize a slogan when there are clients and brands who need good ideas the most, anyhoo, there was one interview I went to for a retail agency in Cape Town, whose D&AD award winning honey-on-the-ears slogan was " We make your tills sing"....honestly? I don't even think my residual acting chops were enough for me to contain my laughter, wow I really lost my luster for advertising or maybe I just haven't had the right environment.

I think my slogan could read F.Y.I.X.Y.Z: I like to get pissed. no? or F.Y.I.X.Y.Z: a pissed creative. nope? oh well.

a great example comes from the death of Buffy's mom Joyce in Season 5 episode "The Body, where everyone has their own way of dealing with it. Yup they all there, guilt, anger blah blah.

So apparently its summer over here, coulda fooled me, unless it was that two week gap of sun we had, than I should have taken more advantage of it. As I type this there is a light drizzle happening behind me...no not that kind of drizzling you dirty people, the kind - hold up. these fucking "tenants" in the house I'm living in at the moment not only have the uncanny ability of producing foal stench cooking 24 hours a day but they have the additional mutated ability of SLAMMING THE GODAMN DOORS SO HARD it vibrates throughout the entire house, THANK GOD I am moving out on Saturday.

Where the hell was I? Gee now I totally lost my dirty joke shtick... let me start again.

It has been eons since I last stepped finger on this blog, my apologies and half for leaving the last post in top place, as the subject matter was such a waste of energy (in reference to the PullMyFinger logo comp). If I hear anybody say its a "chalk it up to life experience" I will post copious amounts of life draining youtube clips to you, that your wall/email will resemble something of a hillbilly reunion roll call.

I guess I should start at the very beginning, which I hear is a very good place to start...but then again as I'm typing this even I'm losing interest, so I'll make this a quickie with a few min of foreplay and 10 mins of spooning afterwards (followed by 20mins crying in the shower coz all you'll ever be is a one night stand or a gateway gay, ooh dark)

shoh but I can ramble? already two paragraphs in and I haven't said anything about the first week I've been in London and how awesome its been meeting new peeps, some DJ's, seeing bands like Cut Copy and the Decemberists LIVE!(up close nogal, not 50 miles away like at a lame ass BRcOKE Fest event) and the weekend markets here I'm afraid make the Biscuit Mill in Cape Town look like a crumb, I'm sowwi buts its true yo.

One thing I hate tho is the lack of Vitamin D in this Land of Eng, lately its been playing mean peekaboo with us, I feel like im stuck in an episode of La Linea (look it up, for the "ohhhh yeah" moment). Do not get me started on my supposed "place of rest" I'm currently residing at, don't get me wrong my room is great, fantastic area (North of Victoria Park) complete hot ass walking the streets, but it all kinda falls flat when your annoying roommates constantly cook meals that smell like "boiled pigs hoofs" (copyright Kate Ruscoe) and the bathroom resembling a horror scene out of "Ringu" with the amount of hair everywhere, which I can handle coz once you've been to a Vortex port-a-potty everything else just seems minuscule, but theres only so many times this bitch barks before he bites.

I guess everything is up in the air at the mo', just when I thought my life could not get any more "sands of the hour glass" more compost is added for extra blockage, but I suppose that's life and all blah blah blah...Hallmark Channel blah blah....

Well I will obviously be keeping you much more up to date with whats happening in my life coz lets face it I like to rant my ass off and how else will the 83 people following me survive? speaking of which anybody from London (East End) reading this and have a room available for around £420-ish pcm, holla at me pleeeeeeez

A huge opportunity came up recently as a competition was created by retail clothing/lifestyle brand Pull & Bear to design a logo in conjunction with their 20 years of consumer goodness. Of course anything that I have a finger in would not be without its drama, after the close of the competition a message was posted on the site, stating they would not be picking a logo as none of the entries went with the campaign.
Lots of people were ticked off, as designers took the time to create good or really average logos, it sounds as if team Bear did not think this through at all, why design a whole campaign and not take into consideration the main logo? They have responded by carrying on with the competition but the winning logo will not feature in the Pull & Bear campaign or any other related material.

So I take it my entry will not get the face time it so rightly deserves, cue in my lovely dashing blog to the rescue. So take a gander at my option and if your curiosity is edging for more go here to see the other contestant works and let me know what you think..

Reflection. the sponsor of the day.

Most people I guess would be taking this time to either:
A: Work out what exactly to expect for the coming months
B: Think about what can be improved upon in their lives from the previous year
C: Taking the time to meditate and cleanse the soul for the New Year
D: Working off a mother f%^*ing hangover from the previous nights debauchery by drinking more and filling the tank with some cow meat at the nearest Mcdonalds.

The thought of reflection for me takes on more a literal approach, over the past few years towards the impending era of 30's and the decay of 20's, it's more and more of a struggle to recognise the face that stares back at me whilst shaving the man-beard. Getting distracted in the daily drama that is "the days of our lives" I feel the increasing need to get back to my roots (not the kiss-the-tarmac-of-Africa kind).
Sure we have to change and adapt in order to move on but what I mean is nowa days I'm a toothpick close to boiling a rabbit with making even the smallest of -what brand toothpaste?- decisions but back then when I was going through bad stuff I could sorta deal with that childlike inhibited naivety

What I think would be perfect is if my old self and new self could do a mental Fusion Dance resulting in a semi perfect on the right track being. That will be my New Years proposition.

Hey crazy kids, its that time of year again when...um..the time of year runs out. Where cult sects prepare for Apocalypse number 2005673, ill fated resolutions like quiting smoking, only sex with woman and learning to water paint are being thought up.

I'm trying ever so hard to come up with a round up my thoughts about the previous year but to prevent an/a "United States of Tara" thing happening to me, I'll pass. What I can say is: heres to a night where 70% of the globe will be boozy freaky trashed in a wave of alcoholic (among others for some) unison and hangovers uniting everyone from all walks of the globe at the toilet bowl.

I recently contributed to helping build a centre for the rehabilitation of child soldiers in Gulu, Uganda. How you ask? well that's when Faith comes in ... no not the spiritual hallelujah Mr Bean-picking-up-a-mint kind, The Buffy character kind. For her 30th Bday actor Eliza Dushku set up a fundraiser with a goal: for the rehabilitation of child soldiers in Gulu, Uganda. I know what I added is just a tiny pebble in the sea but what was that said about throwing a pebble in a pond?? Anyway if you are interested you can find everything over here

What gives you confidence?

I rarely ever am at 100% confidence level, but when I do get the 1UP it would normally be from seeing great work and knowing that I must just get passed the shit that is my inhibition and create, things might not come out as exactly as originally planned but that can lead to some interesting results. I guess that could pour over into other aspects of my life too.

The thoughts that the actors and directors give in this video (filmed at the Toronto Film Festival) are not just limited to their industry I find myself nodding every once in while to what they are saying.

I think this Christmas I would ask for more more confidence, for me it's more practical than a new phone with fart apps.

These were the kinds of thoughts that were exploding around my brain whilst in the trench's of WWFLU, okay not so much thoughts as bi products of tv shows, comics and music I was running through during my service of sneeze but as anyone knows your brain is not so much brain as it is brange when in the bouts of a SeveralNight Fever (stayin alive, stayin alive). Of course coming out of my first international sicky, I have no purple heart or hero's welcome to look forward to, I have the distinct pleasure of continuing my quest for the ultimate, if any, employment (freelance can only go so far). I guess the funny thing is receiving rejection emails while you're puking your guts out holding a hanky of snoz in one hand and migraine pills in the other..just adds that missing salty dipped cherry, don't you think?

But I digress, that festive thing is upon us once more, you know? Where everything from banks, George Foreman grills and tampons tell you to be grateful for having to spend ridiculous amounts of cash to show just how much affection you have for your loved ones, funny how they tell you after you got the damn gift that "oh you should'nt have" but by then, the second bottle of red has had you reached the star on top of the plastic tree, so whatefs. Good Lord am I going all Grinchy over here?? Not my intention.....

I can say I'm stoked at having my very first actual white Christmas in UK, my sis is having hers in New York, so its an international Neophytou Christmas this year Skypes all round!!

So all ya'll be safe and have a good festive thing no matter how you celebrate it.

Today could not be a better day for you guys, this post is just packed with stuff. Why? for once in a long time I am happy (it's a rare occasion, lets not dwell on that issue number 20011 volume 6994 too long).

Firstly I want to share these amazing covers for Vmagazine featuring the fantastic actress's Jane Fonda, Susan Sarandon and Sigourney Weaver. I find them all out stunning and classic and Susan's one totally reaffirms my borderline heteroness tendencies.

I was going through my files today and came across the piece I did while ago, and stumbled on an earlier stage in creating phase, so I figured why not plonk it up, just for whatever. Looks like it could be part of a promotional image for The Ring: In Space - In space no one can hear you rewind. Its actually mesmerizing tho. I'm chuffed.

To some these are just lyrics to well known songs that are either radio fillers or karaoke-party-favours-at-dingy-booze-soaked-bars at the edge of town, but to others these are the 1ups for our own adventure we’re on, no not your usual mushroom squashing, potion throwing or thumb numbing game, this is bigger than all of those, for the outcome of this score menu will determine how well we sleep when we’re 6 feet in the ground.

I’m talking about people who ask themselves “is this it?” Sure there’s nothing wrong with answering “yes it is” that’s actually great, I wish I was there, for the peeps (me) who answer: No. a line is drawn to determine those who are doomed to repeat that same question until they’re old, grey and stuck in something resembling a multi-year storyline on Days of Our Lives and the people who hold onto the rails for a ride, that will bring as much downs as it will ups (its a roller coaster people).

I myself have recently made my choice and I can tell you it’s pretty scary (and not David Boreanaz pretty). BUT I know that with all the rejections, anxieties, low self confidence, sketchy judgements, loneliness, lack of sleep, mood swings, wet tissue bonanza Sundays or comfort food frenzies, that this coaster is going forward and that’s something to get out of bed for. Oh and the Bands, Design and Travel opportunities….

I can understand why my Sis digs this song by Alica Keys not just coz she’s actually going to New York but the global appeal it can have on anyone with ambition in their lives, which could mean raising a family to president of South Africa (bad choice but just roll with it).

To commemorate the one day where we all can pull the repressive curtains away and show our deepest darkest desires, by dressing up as river fairies, S&M bondage queens and German tourists, I have put together a list of a few of my awesomost favourist horror flicks, from 80's shtick to J whorer, which I call:

1: Gremlins

This 1984 Creature Feature was instrumental in my youthful days, not only was the overall theme of "follow the rules or else" scared me shitless when thinking what the fuck would happen if I did that to my dog. It also introduced to me my earliest man crush in the form of Zach Galligan. Dark Comedy at its best, (tip: take out the sequel for a double dose of Mogwai)

Best Death Scene: A draw between microwave Gremlin and old hag "Speed Racer" impersonation on stair lift.

2:A Nightmare On Elm Street

The deformed face of 80's horror, Freddy Krueger. The fact that going to sleep meant death led to a couple of days dozing in the classroom and constant checks under the bed. The thought of using ones imagination as a tool for horror or survival planted the seed in this boys head that would one day blossom into a career. The basement scenes still make me cringe.

Best Death Scene: a guy getting sucked into a bed and blood spewing up towards the ceiling, the guy? Johnny Depp.

3:The Descent

If I had to describe my emotions whilst watching this movie it would be: shit in my pants followed by a 4x4 ride down Table Mountain. A British movie about a bunch of woman going cave diving only to find that claustrophobic spaces are not the only things to worry about. I watched this one alone: not.a.good.idea.

Best Death Scene: not a death scene but the first scene where we are introduced to the horror is fantastically fucking scary.

4:The House Of The Devil
A love letter to 70's horror with echoes of Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist. Set in the 80's, a young girl is called to babysit one night at a creepy house, which just so happens to be home of satanic people. Beautiful cinematography and superb soundtrack, Check This Out!

Best Death Scene: Again not so much death but the dancing with the Walkman on throughout the house puts a much needed break from the tension of the movie plus cool song.

5:Infection

What would this list be without some J Whorer! Volume one of six in the J-Horror Theater series, Infection tells a mind bending story about a failing hospital dealing with potential budget cuts,useless new nurses,lack of medical supplies oh and a contamination of the what-the-fuck-is-going-on kind. As always with Japanese Horror, its about the mind and not so much the gore (which attracts me to this sub genre).

Best Death Scene: blood fusion via one vein to a corpse surrounded by heaters.

And there we go, a nice mixture of genres for ya'll to enjoy this week and remember its not a treat if you don't pull a trick or two...

It has occurred to me that I have not done a music related post in awhile, which is strange coz the one thing that's keeping me going through all this, is the music (and comics but lets not get technically anal) and boy do I have a surprise for ya'll!!!!!

So I recently discovered a logo comp taking place, the brief: create a logo for the Stan Lee Foundation!!! In case you've been living under a rock since you were half egg half sperm, Stan Lee is the man who created X-Men, Hulk, Spider-Man etc, basically my real Super Hero. I stopped everything I was doing(nothing) and put together something.

The concept behind my logo is basic, I used font stemming from Letterpress and brought it together to form a shape of a book, the dot between the Stan and Lee is a nudge to the old way comics were printed, I used bright colours just to created the vibrant feeling art and literacy should give you.

I know that its a one in a million chance but at least I tried yo.

I promise this post will not be about Kylie and guarantee that it will be about me ranting, sounds fun, right? Even as I type the Beachball of death is rotating at great speeds to catch up with the excitement. It pains me to say but my .Mac has aged a lot since we first touched keyboards those many years ago - 4 to be exact..whats that in Computer…20000 years?

Its pretty difficult coming up with new material when basically I could just repost last years September one and replace SA with UK, but I guess that’s the difference knowing that I’m here and doing something makes it a 1 up as opposed to a level down. Of course the mind is another mechanism unto its own, trying to filter all the anxiety and emotional rollar disco’s, tends to leave me with little sleep and dreams of CV ripage from interviewers and defecating Scooby Doo cameos…. But it could all be just me..who knows??

So I've Scooby fan for as long as I've been a comic fan, from time to time I catch up on all things Scooby, like there's a new series on Cartoon Network called "Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated", where (get this) Shaggy and Velma are going steady! Crazy. Anyway, also in my geeky way I checked out some of their movies, there's another live action one where its a prequel on how they all met, its lame but the guy who plays Shaggy is cute (22 year old legal) eye candy, if you get past the "shaggy" voice attempt. But I digress, the point of this post it to show you this really awesome animated intro to one of the Scooby movies, its quirky illustrated style and nice quick mini-story plot is presented well against a folkish 60's music background (Dug the dance scene)

I sense a movement stirring from the North, the winds of change are coming and riding them is Filtered Design. Of course its not an actual name for a branch of design but its a term I've given to any packaging, layout, art piece or bus stop sign, that have done away with collages of WHAM BAM slogans and rainbow on steroids coloured imagery.

I'll give you an example:

This by far, stood out from all the other crisp packaging on the shelves and check out how they dealt with the variants:

Why don’t you ever reply to me? I have a feeling this is a one-sided relationship, do you get a kick out of my misery and pain? I can just see it now, you reading out my woes to your friends while smoking joints and watching porn. Does it make you happy knowing that I’m not going through life all breezy, care free and full of sparkle. You know what you can go and screw yourself really. I might as well pay a hooker coz A: I wouldn’t waste time forming complete sentences with structure and accurate spelling and B: I get something out of it.

I recently watched this film, which is categorized under Horror but I found it more along the lines of; a visual account of denial, grief and acceptance, the only horror, which can be related, is the fear of losing someone you love.It is a haunting piece where my eyes were competing with Victoria Falls at the end. Honestly acted, Beautifully scored, jaw dropping locations and AMAZINGLY art directed.

Due to the overwhelming support in response to the "Super' post recently, Caitlin. I have decided to utilize my mutant abilities of not giving a fuck, coz I'm just too busy getting blown away by this awesome producer called Jumping Back Slash. He's making SA beats to the next level yo, I'd like to think of it as the progression of the Kwaito and house music coming out of the country in the 90's, groups like; Bongo Maffin, Boom Shaka, Abashanti??, Brend Fassie and Arthur etc. Coz for me nowadays Kwaito is the equivalent of an American rap video but with a Mazda parked at a shabeen with bikinis.

So its just refreshing to hear this kind of music being made unfortunately it takes a foreigner to do it but Im not complaining maybe the local "muso's" will take notice and go "oh fuck our music is shit, lets change that." Jumping Back Slash is the perfect combination of African beats, house and a whole lot of appeal.

After a very eventful weekend in the city, I was doing some admin(facebook) and had my iTunes on shuffle when up popped a song that makes me ashamed I have never really paid attention to the artist. the man in question is Bob Dylan and the song Times they are a changin" Its quite interesting how I discovered this song and why I was blown away by the excution of where it was used. Theres a reason why it works so well and with that comes a story…

Growing up in small town Benoni, South Africa in the 90's and being gay was hard. I was on the receiving end of insults, taunts, fists(not the porn kind) and spit. I felt my life was robbed of any "normality" because I did not play soccer or hang with the boys, it was lonely and confusing. I had few to turn to my friends were young and my family were going through a troubled marriage. I really had no one, I found myself lying in bed with tears filled with thoughts of just ending it all and asking why me? to the ceiling.

Who knew that one day a cartoon show on K-TV about super hero’s, which resulted in a 18 year old hobby, would be responsible for defining my beliefs and more importantly the man that I am today. I’m talking about The Uncanny X-men.

A bunch of mutants born different from Homo Superior who are feared and hated by the very same people they protect. Over the years of following their exploits, these men, woman, whites, blacks, American, Asian, Canadian, Russians, Germans, Irish, alien, were and still to this day my other family. This family gave me the ability be my own hero and give strength to those who need it.

The ideas of acceptance and fighting for what you believe in, is the same ideas found in Bob Dylans – Times they are a changing. So what a surprise was it when the opening sequence of Watchmen, a movie based on a comic book about super heroes in the 80’s, blasted me with slo motion shots creating a worlds history very close to ours and timeless message in the background. Its sad tho that my X-Men were not present in this but they were there in spirit.

Be a hero, understand, accept, help, change, believe.....

I love it when someone does something creative with characters from the comics I read. It gives me a warm feeling inside, you know the opposite feeling you get when unexpectedly looking at Hanna Montana printed bed prints or 11 year old bra's.

In between goal scoring and E3 expo drooling, I'd like to take the time out to show some work done by a fantastic illustrator who has been doing some cover work overtime at Marvel these past few years. If I could use one word to describe Adi Granov's work it would be: Texture. Not just the obvious textures he uses but also the emotive depth he portrays in his hero expressions and almost a "noir" feel as a friend of mine commented. There something very mature with his tone use and layouts. I can honestly say when a piece of his comes into my line of vision my eyes have a "when harry met sally" moment without the fakage (faking). I love his group shots esp the X-men ones. PS his Iron Man was used as a bases for the armor design in the Iron Man movies.

So I recently applied for a position as a blogger for a website I follow, the task is to post music and talk about it(PHD level shit). So I didn't get it, which is cool, I wont be jumping off any bridges any time soon. What I find amusing is some of the reasons why an applicant would not be chozen

- Were about the same age as my other writers
- Had a taste in music that was extremely broad
- Had great skill with computing, (programming was a plus)
- Were known around the community
- Commented frequently
- And overall, showed an immense amount of interest.

Reaction:
- Now I know im getting old but when last I checked, music has no age limit or am I missing out on something that only the "younger"generation knows in their vast array of googled knowledge.
- Im just going to copy and paste my FaceBook status on that: "so apparently I dont have a broad taste in music...I could just vomit on the person, at how ridiculous that statement towards me is...unless its poppy shit that is birthed after 27 hours of American Idol labour, then you can drink up my shit and keep walking onto oncoming traffic.. bye bye now."

Every once in awhile there comes a movie that exceeds every ones expectations and crumbles the flood gates that hold the vast amounts of imagination from our minds. Now try having a dream like that. I don't know what it is but sometimes a block buster occurs and I'm the only person in the world to experience it and sometimes play a role in it too (Maybe its watching too much Studio Ghibli). Waking up after the "movie" is "screened" its depressing knowing that by the next day, your conscience will have scrapped your epic to the bargain bin of your brain, eventually forgetting you created such a piece. Unless you have one of those dream books to write in...nerds...sorry Sis !±!

I did a Q&A piece for a magazine recently unfortunatly it was cut due to space but they were so nice that they sent me a copy and I must say it's great. Its called I Like My Style.net basically what you do is upload pics of yourself focusing on your fashion and people comment or message you, it sounds kind of ego what what, but i met really nice people on there (check my page out here). The magazine is a culmination of all these people and shows how people are just as diverse as their fashion sense. More info here.

Now as I was paging through the mag I cam across this article about a really awesome painter by the name of Taner Ceylan, his subject matter is relatively normal, that is if you count men fucking each other followed by a still life flower. What really grabbed my attention was a piece titled "The Reading Lady", I dont know what it is about it but it captured me in an instant. This cements my appreciation towards art, I rarely ever get affected by art, music is the main emotive stirrer for me. But wow!

I'm not one for mushy movies and all......oh who am I kidding?? I am!!! Bring on a Notebook or City Of Angels and you'll have yourself another man made damn or Victoria falls (I swear no intention to gayify those metaphors was made, it just happened). Speaking of Gay, add that into the mix and its Apocalyptic mass weather shifts, okay okay, its not as dramatic as my lame attempts at figurative writing.

Shelter is a good movie about a guy(Zack) he surfs, tags buildings, arty, drinks and finds out he's gay, conveniently in this movie. What is nice about it is there are no gender benders or predictable shit you've come to expect in a "gay interest"(with exception of Brokeback).The title character could be anyone of us actually, as his coming out party, is just one of the issues he has to face. Give it a try and you might enjoy, the ends a bit soppy happy but hey we need that every once in awhile, right?

Has anyone noticed the amount of shitness that’s happening around Cape Town lately? I’m speaking purely on the point of people being who they are; different, irritating, cool, snobbish, ugly, fuckable, small…ect ect. But Recently people have obviously gotten sick of people being human and decided to post their comments in a public domain. Sure that’s what I do, but I like to think there is a purpose for me posting up my rants, at least for humour sake.

I mean the amount of kak that is written about how the Kool kids are damaged kids, or the young kids are so lame. yadda, yadda, yadda, now I have been known to say stuff in the similar vein but I actually have had the capacity to think further by not frequenting the places or hanging around those people.

Why oh why is this happening in such a cosmopolitan city?. I mean this is Cape Town people!! the place where the freaks hang out with the norms and nothing is said. I had a colleague who went to that Synergy thing this past weekend and got sneered at because his wife is white and he is black. Fuck is this the 80’s? I’m getting really disappointed with this place and I don’t want to be. So any of you fucks who can’t stand anybody who is different or inexperienced or lame or “cool” do something pro-active about it (and I don’t mean Columbine pro-active)

I know its tough and hard (believe me, I have been the object of many spat on's) but deal with your issue's coz 99% of the time thast what they are doing as well. Once you have started, it will be better for yourself and better for this beautiful City.

If there were a movie in production about my life it would be this one displayed up top, but without the dying horse, flying dragon and the rock people would be more earthy and less boer. What’s sad about hearing other people’s problems that seem to never change is suddenly realising that this is my problem. I seem to be stuck in other people’s life’s yet have not one of my own. How to explain…oh ..Its like going to watch a movie then buying the DVD then watching it over and over until you know every line, every queue and soundtrack but instead of putting another movie into the player your stuck with the first one….on repeat.

Before I go into a spew about the gastronomical farts that are either coming from Table Mountain or Robin Island. I GOT A JOB! Don’t all seven of you following my blog drop dead now, to think it took 7 months to get to this point…hold on 7 followers…7 months…7 days of the week…7 Eleven…its all connected!!! Spooky. Any way, I start tomorrow, can’t wait to wake up early and work and then complain about waking up early and moan about working, the joys of employment!

So I cant tell you anything that happened with me over the weekend, as I was far away in the land of mucus and membrane, yup I was sick and missed out on all the Loerie action but anyone can go onto the Book and check out the photo’s of what occurred. Although it seemed Cape Town itself wanted the rest of the country out of its borders judging by the crap but lovely bed weather.
I can tell you I had another run in with the opposite of the law, when I was harassed by street kids at the top of Long, not cool. In all the pushing and swearing my nose somehow attracted the car door, I still have a bruise, try blowing your nose for four days with that. Ouch. Sigh, life’s little obstacles are starting to reach beyond the PG label…okay it reached that a looong time ago but who wants to hear that.

You would have already heard the 4 Billion aquisition of Marvel by Disney. Been ages hey? But anyhew I’ve actually been quite a busy beaver, and not just the social circuit. Have a lot of mini stuff in the pipelines so watch this space and not my ass. Okay maybe my ass, its cute right? Don’t deny it…..

Went for a casting yesterday for an overseas brand, had to act, it was fun!!! I miss acting. I chose advertising as I thought it was more stable “low and behold” later, cue in frying pan (labelled- reality check) to face. So that’s one thing to hold thumbs for. I’m also working on a semi- secret project for a college over seas, that if I win I get in!!! Some people know others don’t. Now I don’t want to tell all just yet, as I am a firm believer in the power of Jinx, so bear with me until further notice, wow I’m like Bold and the Beautiful with that hook, except I don’t sleep around with family members, although I am Greek so how could I know.

So on Sunday I was the victim of a crime (no, no SABC3 sponsored musician was no where near my ears). It was Just off Long Street (shock) where some Bergie took my phone right out of my hands and poofed it away into his bag. Cue a slightly tipsy Matti running after him begging for at least the SIM card back, oh he gave me something right, like three punches’ later. Not hectic ones but it was assault, thank God for a group of ladies and a cab driver later and a friend I got my phone back!! But what really got me was how the people around me really helped me. It was reminiscent of the scene in Kindergarden Cop where the kids yell “Stranger Stranger”, and how the most effective weapon is not a knife or gun but a voice and you can never run out of bullets with that…….unless you really scream loud.

Are you one of those people who don’t just watch films..they rape them!!!!! And I don’t mean that in the offensive way I mean it in the way a dog would devour a bone way…okay just in case you were wondering I’m not talking about porn, I’m talking about normal movies you see in the theatres. Of course not the Hanna Montana’s or National Lampoons, this is more on the dare-I say-it “Indie” circuit. (GASP!!). I like to think I get it from my actor side of my brain…which I call the Dramatic lobe (it has many uses than the one stated here). I came across this wonderful piece of production called “ The Perverts Guide To Cinema” I must say I was thrilled at the fact of this piece of medium rare sirloin stake. Mmmmmmo.
